The beautiful Royal is our August Horse of the Month!

Royal was diagnosed with Equine Cushing’s disease after showing signs of lethargy. Lethargy can be a difficult sign for owners and vets to recognise as different horses will show lethargy in different ways. In Royal’s case she started to stand and lie in the same place in her field for long periods of time and looked tucked up. Initially her vet thought that she may have arthritis, but after she didn’t respond to pain relief medication a blood test was carried out to investigate her behavioural changes further. The blood test showed that she had developed Cushing’s and so she started medication with a daily tablet to treat this condition. Her owner Lynn reports that “The results are amazing! She is playing with her brother in the field again and responding to us humans again too!”

We’re so pleased that Royal is now being treated successfully for her Cushing’s, and that she is enjoying life again! Thanks for sharing her story with us Lynn ?
