'Pip' Lockley

'Pip' Lockley

This beautiful 28 year old thoroughbred is called Pip. Her owner initially became suspicious of a problem last year when she noticed that she couldn’t shift Pip’s weight. Pip had always been a good doer, but no matter how little grass her owner put her on she never lost weight. Then throughout the summer she struggled to shed her winter coat so that clipping became essential.  Pip had always been a very tidy horse in her stable and had never done more than one or two wees a night, however her owner also noticed that Pip’s bed was becoming saturated every night. Finally Pip began to develop recurrent mastitis infections and at this point her vet ran some blood tests. Pip’s ACTH level was high indicating that she had Equine Cushing’s disease. She was started on treatment for Cushing’s, and she’s still super mobile, sassy and happy as ever. Her owner says “ We’ve got it under control and I’m so glad we picked it up. She is doing so well for almost 29! And loving life retired in the field. My absolute golden oldie <3”
